A little about the artist:

Hildegard Gunzel’s childlike soul has endeared her to collectors from around the world. Born in Germany, she has fond memories of pushing her dollies in their carriage in her hometown. Never could she have imagined that she would someday design some of the world’s most enchanting little children.

Hildegard was blessed with creative talents and at the age of 16 she was completing her first year at the German School for Fashion Design. She finished her degree in Fashion Design and Graphic Arts in 1965 and she began designing fashion and jewelry.

In her early twenties, she married and began a family. While visiting a friend, she was walking through a village and found herself mesmerized by an antique pine cupboard filled with antique dolls. She was taken aback by such a strong desire to have them. However, there wasn’t money in the budget and her family always came first. The only solution was to make her own dolls. After all, she was an artist. At this magical moments, Hildegard’s doll making career began.

Over a span of twenty-five years, Hildegard’s design talents have become recognized to be among the best in the world. She has won too many awards to mention and is continuously achieving a higher level of excellence. She has recently started designing Teddy Bears and characters with resin faces as companions for her dolls. Hildegard is enjoying great success with this new design medium.
