Adoncia is a Mapuche Indian from the south of Chile. Her name means 'sweet one' in Spanish. And a real sweetie she is in a black wool jumper set off with three different colors of wool fringe! Colorful matching beads form an X and O pattern across the bottom of her skirt. A warm self-fringed shawl graces her shoulders. Adoncia wears a head band of metal discs with a flower formed of double rows of self-fringed material and a center of circular beads. A spectacular bib necklace of silvery coins, filigree fans and tube shaped beads dazzle the eye of her passing admirers.
