MaShawa belongs to the tribe of Gaoshan people from the country of Taiwan. Her black wool outfit is adorned with specialized patterns of intricate needlework created by her ancestors. The copper bells that sway along the edge of her caplet are believe to have the power to ward off bad luck. Eighteen colorful pom-poms encircle her headdress. They represent the 18 different tribes of the Gaoshan. The white feathers on the crown are there to catch the eye of a prospective sweetheart. Three bright metal disc and tiny metal studs are worked into the decorative flap hanging at her waist.
